Tolman's performance as Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson was praised by Vanity Fair, who wrote: "She calmly and confidently was the star of the performance". Tolman was a part of the ABC drama series Emergence it premiered on September 24, 2019 but was pulled after a single season, in May 21st, 2020, despite getting "pretty solid" ratings according to Tolman via Twitter.
